DRY BODY BRUSHING
The lymphatic system is a complex network of tissues, vessels and organs that work together to remove waste from organs. Lymph fluid contains white blood cells and is thus an integral part of the immune system.
When the lymphatic system becomes congested we can present with symptoms such as cellulite, puffiness, water retention, weight gain, skin breakouts, sluggishness and fatigue.
Dry skin brushing is a great tool to stimulate the lymphatic system to reduce some of the above symptoms.
Choose a brush with natural bristles and a long handle to reach your back. You can purchase some with detachable handles which is also useful.
Always brush towards the heart. Starting at the feet, apply slight pressure and move the brush in small circles and make your way up one leg. Then do the other leg, again starting at the foot and moving towards the heart. Start at the hands and do the arms, towards the chest. If you have cellulite, focus on these areas. You have clusters of lymph nodes around the groin, armpits, neck, chest and belly button, so also focus on these areas.
Ideally body brush for 10 minutes each day. Always body brush on dry skin, and before showering. Once showered, dry your skin and moisturise with a natural oil such as coconut, almond or jojoba oil.
